The museum is located at 13 Pushkin Street. In the 1920s, this building housed one of Odesa's first hotels, the Hotel du Nord, where Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin stayed for the initial 2 weeks during his 13-month stay in Odesa.

In the years when Pushkin stayed in Odesa , the street where the museum is located was called Italian Street, and it received its current name in 1880 in honor of the poet. The museum was opened in 1959. Visitors can see an exhibition that details Pushkin's stay in Odesa, and learn about Odesa's cultural life in the early 19th century. In front of the entrance to the museum is a monument to Alexander Sergeyevich,,unveiled in 1999 on the 200th anniversary of the poet's birth. The author of the bronze sculpture is Alexander Tokariev, creator of many statues and monuments of Odesa.
